Photos of Another Time: When U.S. troops liberated the U.S. Embassy in Kabul in 2001, they found a scene from the Twilight Zone -- a place stuck in a time warp -- a kitchen uncleaned in 12 years since the Embassy was abandoned in 1989, cigars still in their ashtrays, ashtrays neatly placed on the staff dining room table, prices in the cafeteria from another era, portraits of a long-gone Secretary of State and a DCM's office certainly not quite ready to be re-occupied. And this was before "the wall" so there still was a view of Afghanistan from inside the compound. These photos capture that moment.
